Earth Day (Belated Musings…)
You know, this is somewhat belated, but there is always something that I’ve wondered about Earth Day. Why is it that we set aside just one day every year to give a damn about our home? Okay, scratch that- I realize the symbolism associated with having a holiday conferred upon a cause. It’s just so frustrating to see more people take notice of important issues when Earth Day rolls around only to forget about them on the very next day.

Maybe it’s just my sense of spirituality speaking, but I sincerely believe that humankind needs to do more for the Earth. This is our home. This is our food, our shelter, our livelihood. I realize that things can’t change overnight, but it would be nice to see more of a “constant” awareness where the Earth is concerned. More education, more research, more work to improve overall conditions. Maybe we’re starting to get there- the new fad is to “go green”, “go organic”, “go natural.”
I suppose we can always hope that the fad achieves more of a “permanent” status rather than following in the footsteps of, say, wearing your clothing backwards…
You’d think more people would care about the quality of life that we’re establishing for our children. Seriously.
