Making Money Online: The Forgotten Element

Call me skeptical, but in the many years that I’ve spent online I have seen quite a few scams. Most of these scams have one thing in common: they promise you a lot of money in a very short period of time. Sounds too good to be true, eh? Well, let’s be honest- it IS too good to be true. This isn’t to say that you can’t make money online. You can. However, you need to be savvy and straightforward in your business approach.

When promoting a business or an opportunity, remember one little thing: honesty is the best policy. Anyone who has spent a good deal of time scouring the internet for work at home opportunities can tell you that many advertisers are all talk and no action. From what I’ve observed, this can be especially true within the realm of network marketing. This is a great niche for people who love to sell and feel like part of a team while still retaining an entrepreneur’s independent spirit. Unfortunately, unscrupulous people will show up everywhere, and network marketing is no exception. Dishonest people will try to recruit you to their downline in an effort to make a quick buck; you are nothing more than a dollar sign to them. Would you want to treat someone else this way- especially someone that you would like to create a professional relationship with? Hopefully, your answer is “hell to the no!” Or something along those lines. If you were looking for employment, or an opportunity to make money from the comfort of your own home, then I’m sure you would want a prospective employer/lead to be honest and open with you. Treat others with that same courtesy. Do not focus solely on the benefits of your opportunity; provide a potential business associate with a well-rounded picture of your company or opportunity. That way, they will know what to expect. This will create a more positive business relationship for all parties involved.

On the flip side, you need to be skeptical of any opportunity that you encounter when searching for the ticket to your financial freedom. As I said before, there are many people who will look at you as just another dollar sign. As appealing as any opportunity may sound, you need to do a lot of research before jumping into anything. Utilize search engines, forums, and other individuals to gather more information about the opportunity of your choice. Only by looking at the “big picture” will you be able to formulate an educated opinion. Move forward once you have enough knowledge to make an informed decision.

In either case, take care not to place yourself in a situation that you can’t handle. If you’re terribly afraid of people, public speaking, sales, etc., then network marketing (as an example) might not be your best option. If you’re looking to overcome these fears, and you’re willing to work hard in the process, then by all means- go for it. Just don’t set yourself up for a big fall by building your financial base on unreasonable expectations. Set reasonable, attainable goals for yourself and move forward with confidence.

How does honesty tie into all of this? Well, as a prospective employer or salesman, being honest with your potential customers/business associates will build a solid foundation for a future relationship. By being honest with yourself, you’ll be able to determine which business opportunities are most suited to your personality. You won’t set yourself up for failure with unreasonable expectations for yourself or any potential business opportunity.

It’s a win-win situation, really.
