“Waterboarding” Bill

Bush Plans To Veto Waterboarding Bill

For anyone who is unfamiliar with the term “waterboarding”, allow me to explain. Waterboarding is an interrogation technique that’s been around for a long time- since the days of the Spanish Inquisition, according to Wikipedia. The technique essentially simulates the process of drowning; the basic idea is that it will force information out of a prisoner.

What interests me is that Bush wants to continue this interrogation method when there is so much evidence to support the opposite argument- namely, that the information obtained from the victim of waterboarding may not be reliable. Think about it: how long would you last if you were in the victim’s place? At some point, wouldn’t you consider telling your accuser whatever they wanted to hear? Wouldn’t you just want it to end, no matter what you had to say or do to make it stop?

It makes me wonder just how reliable our information truly is… of course, there’s also the concern that we’re placing ourselves in more danger by acting on information that could have been falsified by an individual who was under extreme duress.

Ponder, ponder, ponder. It certainly makes you wonder.
